{New & Emerging Black Authors} K. Blaze

Good Morning lovely Readers! How are ya’ll doing this morning?

Welcome back to the New & Emerging Black Authors segment. Each week, I will be featuring an amazing new and emerging author. I just love to give new authors a chance and this is one way that I enjoy doing just that! I hope you will welcome them with open arms and give them a shot! So without further ado, here is Author K. Blaze!

Lakeisha ‘K. Blaze’ Martin is from Spartanburg, SC. She got into writing 10 years ago. Four years ago she started writing on a site called Wattpad, garnering a wide fan base. Two years later she tried her hand at publishing her first book, under the pen name Lady Amethyst. After a few setbacks, the 35-year old took a break from writing for two years. After being pushed by friends and family, she quickly put her pen to use again.

Blaze writes Urban Fiction, Romance, and Erotica. She adds a bit of a twist to keep her audience engaged. Her style of writing is raw and gritty. She is currently signed to Major Key Publishing. K. Blaze currently has three books under her belt and she plans to continue her journey of building and branding herself. She hopes to someday become a National Bestselling Author

LET’S CHAT! – The Interview

Good Morning Lakeisha, thank you for agreeing to join me here today. What inspired you to share your story with the world?

Things I have been through as well as conversations that I have on a day-to-day basis. Music and TV also plays a part in my inspiration.

Why did you choose to pen, A Love So Deep? Does this story has a message that you wanted to convey?

I chose to pen this story because it’s a lot of people that have gone through what Kadaris and Treasure have gone through. Being hurt makes one shy away from love, until they meet that special someone. I wanted people to see through this piece that there is still true love after the storm. It actually wasn’t my favorite story to pen because of Treasure’s attitude.

Do you recall the first book you’ve ever read?

I think it was Shame on It All, by Zane

Do you read much? If so, who are some of your favorite authors?

I read now when I have the time. Some of my favorite authors are: Zane, Maureen Smith, and Brenda Jackson.

In your opinion, what is the most important thing about a book?

Having consistency, as well as character development.

Which do you believe is more important: pages read or bestseller list? Why?

For me, it’s the pages read. I want the person to really get lost in what they are reading. I feel as though if a reader is reading then eventually bestseller will come. I just want my book read.

What’s your favorite movie that was based on a book?

How Stella Got her Groove Back.

How is your writing style different from other writers?

I wouldn’t say that it’s different. It just fits the person that I am, which helps me to convey the message that I’m trying to put out there. Maybe I would say my writing is a little risky when it comes to some of the topics I choose to write.

Have any new writers grasped your interest lately?

Yes. She’s actually my pen sister. Her name is Lavonda.

If you had the chance to bring your book to the big screen, which actress & actor would you prefer to star as Treasure & Kadaris?

In my mind I see Lauren London playing the role of Treasure. For Kadaris, maybe Michael B. Jordan.

What are some of your hobbies, other than reading & writing?

I love to shop and also love trying new restaurants.

Tell our followers an interesting fact (or two) about yourself that fans/readers may not know.

I’m extremely shy.

What advice would you give to aspiring authors?

Believe in yourself. Keep pushing even when it seems like things seem bleak. Never give up on what you are passionate about. Stray away from all negativity and always think positive.

Is there anything you would like to say to your readers, as well as potential new readers and fans?

To all my readers and potentials, I just want to say thank you for reading, sharing, and leaving reviews. I’m going to continue to write some of the best work I can to keep you guys engaged!

Thank you so much for chatting with me today LaKeisha!

This excerpt is from, Caught In Crime, Captured By Love 2.

“Mecca, there is no us. There will never be an us. What happened when you kidnapped me was just one of those things. I was caught up in the moment. Hell, I was vulnerable. At the time I needed someone. You just happened to be there by default.”

“Riley, stop lying to yourself. Just admit what went on between us was more than you ever imagined. Even though it was a fucked up situation; it still meant something to you. I mean something to you,” he placed his hand against his chest.

He cut her off with his lips upon hers. At first, she was resistant against him, but she couldn’t fight it anymore. He was like a drug that was bad for her health. She knew that she didn’t need him, but she wanted him. It was something about him that made her want to risk it all. Wrapping her arms around his neck, she got lost in the kiss.

As if she weighed nothing, he lifted her, and her legs automatically wrapped around his waist. He carried her through the living area towards her bedroom. Once there he let her ease down his body. Pulling his Polo over his head, he threw it across the room. Riley took in his defined torso. He was just too good to be true.

“Riley, tell me what you want? Whatever you want I promise, I will give.”

She didn’t utter a word. Riley untied her bikini top, letting it drop to the floor. He stared at her chocolate breast and had to bite down on his lip. Shaking his head, he took a step back. As bad as he wanted her he had to refrain from having her. They were going to have to do things different. He needed her to understand that it was about more than the physical; although the physical was great. Riley was in a lust-filled haze. The look almost had him ready to make love to her. She was for sure going to be the death of him.

Have you had the pleasure of reading a book from Author K. Blaze? I haven’t yet, but I plan on reading her completed series, Caught In Crime, Captured By Love. By the way, I heard that Blaze plans on doing a spin-off of Mekhi and Myra, so that everyone can see how things unfold with them. Go on ahead and check out her books, and come back to let me know your thoughts!
